Here are answers to a few questions we get often:

What should I expect when I request business assistance?

With Arete, you are merely a phone call or click away from confidential and professional human resources, legal or financial support—whenever you need it.

As a business assistance client, you will simply:

  1. Call us at 1-877-412-7483 and provide your policy number. If you have access to the Healthy Business Bookmark, you can also request support through an online form on that site.
  2. A member of our intake team will actively listen to your issue and will work with you to identify and match you with the human resources, legal or financial professional best suited to meet your needs and most likely to produce a successful outcome for your business.
  3. The professional will then connect with you by phone and you’ll work together to address your issue.
  4. If you’re looking to refer employees who are struggling, we have an extensive Canadian counsellor network that can provide the timely and confidential support employees need—either through phone, video or in-person sessions. To refer an employee, have them call us at 1-877-412-7483 and provide them with your customer number and their employee number (note they may also be asked for their referring manager’s name). We’ll take care of the rest.
  5. Depending on your plan, you may also have access to the Healthy Business Bookmark—a carefully curated online library of business information and resources (including sample forms, how-to guides, podcasts and videos) you can access at any time to supplement the professional telephone guidance. If you’re not sure if it’s included in your plan, contact us and we’ll let you know.
What can I expect when I request financial or legal support?
As a business assistance client, you have access to both financial and legal professionals that can help you better understand your next steps and other resources that may be available to you. However, it’s important to note that in both cases, the professionals in our network can only provide you with general information and guidance, and not complex legal or financial advice. If your issue is more involved, the professional may recommend consulting a financial advisor or hiring a lawyer privately.

When connecting with a legal professional in our network, here’s what we do/don’t provide:

  • general guidance (i.e., legal information)
  • support understanding legal forms
  • support navigating legal jargon
  • explanations of the law and legal system in general terms
  • recommendations for next steps
  • legal advice
  • support reviewing legal documents
  • applying the law and the legal system for a specific case
  • interpretations of the law, including statute and case law and legal principles
  • creating a lawyer-client relationship

When connecting with a financial professional in our network, here’s what we do/don’t provide:

  • general guidance
  • taxation support
  • budget support
  • specific financial advice
  • investment advice

How do you keep client information and data secure?

Client privacy, confidentiality and data security is of the utmost importance to us. To maintain this high standard:

  • all Arete employees are bound by a confidentiality agreement and any personal information is collected in accordance with privacy legislation;
  • our online reporting system, e-Tera, employs a confidential client coding system as well as two main applications (one for Arete staff and one for its counselling professionals) that have a separation of data between the intake process, the professional counselling sessions and the plan administration data to ensure privacy is maintained at all times during the transfer and recording of information;
  • the nature and content of counselling sessions cannot be shared without the written consent of the client; and
  • employers may be provided with high-level, aggregate program usage reports on occasion, though these reports never include any identifying information.

What is a Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) session?

Critical incidents are situations outside your normal frame of reference, which can challenge your belief system. They can come in many forms, such as natural disasters or events involving people. These situations can leave you and your colleagues feeling out of control.

If your workplace has experienced an incident, Arete Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) can offer you and your staff the support you need during this difficult time. Led by a professional in our Network, CISD is a short-term group intervention process that focuses on an immediate event. The general goals of a group debriefing are to:

  • help individuals understand and process the incident
  • explore how the incident may have challenged their beliefs/assumptions
  • support individuals in the healing process, including building resilience and managing reactions to stress
  • identify individuals who need additional support
  • educate on common reactions to critical incidents and identify healthy coping patterns
  • help participants reorganize and repair after the crisis, while minimizing the known challenges of crisis response, such as re-traumatisation or vicarious traumatisation

Our CISD sessions are confidential and designed to best meet the unique needs of your team. If your organization has experienced an incident, please reach out to our intake team at 1-877-412-7483 so we can pair you with a professional to lead your session and, if necessary, provide you and your team with additional individual supports.
